Key Directives Including Marathi Language and State Song in Maharashtra Schools
-
Mandatory Marathi Language Education:
Marathi must be taught as a subject across all schools and appear on Class 10 mark sheets, regardless of the Board. The state government will soon issue formal communication to all Boards to ensure compliance.
-
Inclusion of Maharashtra State Song
On the occasion of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the song ‘Jai Jai Maharashtra Maza, Garja Maharashtra Maza’ was declared the official State Song via a Government Resolution on 01 February 2023.
Recognising its motivational and patriotic significance, the School Education and Sports Department, through its circular dated 15 March 2024, instructed all schools to play or sing the State Song daily along with the National Anthem, morning assembly, prayer, and pledge. Observations show that this directive is now being followed in schools of all mediums and managements across the state.
-
Promotion of Maharashtra’s Heritage
The Hon. Education Minister suggested that ICSE and international Board textbooks include lessons on the life and contributions of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in line with the Maharashtra State Board curriculum. He also encouraged the inclusion of Maharashtra’s history within humanities subjects.
-
Focus on Inclusivity and Patriotism
The Hon. Education Minister urged schools to focus on inclusive education, particularly for divyang (differently-abled) and low-learning-level students. He also recommended initiatives that promote patriotism and national pride, ensuring students ‘keep the nation first.’
-
Infrastructure and Safety Measures
Schools have been directed to install CCTV cameras, follow the Right to Education (RTE) Act diligently, and effectively implement all government education schemes and programmes.
