Before we get into the details of the codes, let’s understand what they are.
What are the Qualifying Codes in NEET (UG) 2025?
Qualifying Codes serve as a guideline to determine which educational qualification aligns with the NEET (UG) 2025 eligibility criteria. It is a mandatory section in the NEET (UG) 2025 application form.
List of Qualifying Codes for NEET (UG) 2025
There are seven Qualifying Codes in the NEET (UG) application form. They are covered in detail along with their simplified meaning in the table below.
Code Number 1
Candidates who have appeared and are awaiting results or are appearing for the Class 12 exam with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as the main subject. For candidates who are awaiting results, their candidature will be considered only if they provide documentary evidence of having passed Class 12 with the required subjects and percentage of marks during counselling.

This code is applicable for students who are appearing for their Class 12 Board exam in 2025 or have appeared and are waiting for their exam results. At the time of counselling , they must provide documentary evidence of clearing their Class 12 Board exams with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
Code Number 2
- Candidates who have completed 12 years of study till Class 12 or an equivalent examination. The last two years of such study must comprise of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (including practical tests) and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core. This system follows the 10+2+3 education structure recommended by the National Committee on Education.
- The candidates who have passed Class 12 level with Biology as an additional subject will also be eligible for the MBBS Entrance Examination.
- Candidates who passed Class 12 from the National Institute of Open Schooling or State Open Schools, or who are private candidates from recognised State Boards, or who have Biology or Biotechnology as an additional subject shall be eligible to apply for the NEET (UG) 2025 exam, subject to the outcome of Special Leave Petitions or Appeals submitted by the Medical Council of India.

Students who have cleared class 12 or equivalent examination from a recognised Board in India with subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English.
Code Number 3
Students with the Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science of an Indian University/Board or other recognised examining body with Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Biotechnology (including practical test in these subjects) and also English as a compulsory subject.

This code is for Karnataka students who have cleared Pre-University Course (PUC).
Code Number 4
Students who have passed Pre-professional/Pre-Medical Examination after passing either the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination with subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English. The Pre-Professional/Pre-Medical examination shall include practical tests in these subjects.

This code is for students who have passed their Pre-Professional/Pre-Medical exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English after passing their Higher Secondary Examination or an equivalent exam. This code is for students who have already cleared any of the Medical courses such as BDS, BHMS, BUMS, BAMS, etc.
Code Number 5
Students who have passed the first year of the three years’ degree course of a recognised University with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests.

This code can be applied by students who have completed the first, second or third year of their bachelor’s degree from any recognised University. Subjects must include Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology (including practical exams).
Code Number 6
Students with B.Sc. Examination from an Indian University provided that they have passed the B.Sc. Examination with not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Biotechnology and further that they have passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English.
In Simple Terms
Students who have completed a Bachelor’s degree in the Science stream in at least two subjects from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology can apply this code. Also, students applying for this code should have cleared their Class 12 exam with the subjects mentioned above.
Code Number 7
Any other examination which in scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests in each of these subjects and English.

This qualifying code is for foreign and NRI candidates who have cleared an exam equivalent to any Intermediate Science exam of an Indian University/Board. They must have completed two years of study in Physics, Biology/Biotechnology, Chemistry (including practical tests in all subjects), and English.
How to Choose a Qualifying Code for NEET (UG) 2025?
- After carefully understanding and analysing the qualifying codes mentioned above, select a code that is in line with your qualifications.
- If you are appearing for Class 12 in 2025, you should select the qualifying code as 01.
- If you have passed Class 12, you should further analyse the necessary qualifications and select a code between 02 and 07.
- For foreign and NRI candidates, code 07 is the appropriate choice.
