This is done to align the current academic assessment with the National Education Policy, 2020. The detailed guidelines for these revised assessment practices will be issued by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

Maharashtra State education circular on continuous evaluation.
Steps to be Undertaken by Schools to Ensure Students’ Academic Progress
- Identification of 10–15 highly competent subject-wise and medium-wise teachers from all schools within each Taluka.
- The District Education Officer and the District Education Institution should form subject-wise and medium-wise teacher groups at the district level to ensure proper guidance.
- Taluka-level groups to be instructed to prepare the assessment material for both half-yearly examinations and other tests. All schools in the Taluka should be directed to use this material. For annual examinations, this material should be prepared by the district-level group. For Talukas where the Taluka-level group cannot prepare the material, the district-level group should undertake the work.
- The material prepared by one Taluka-level group may be used in other Talukas for efficient usage of material.
- Sample answer sheets should be provided with the assessment material. All schools should ensure that the answer sheets are evaluated according to the sample answer sheets only. The resposibility for its compliance lies with the District Education Officer (Primary/Secondary) and the District Education Institution.
- Schools are required to submit them to the relevant Taluka-level and District-level groups one month prior to the examination for verification and approval. Schools must only use this material after approval from the respective groups. No changes can be made to the approved material in the later stages.
- A state-level training will soon be organised by the National Council of Educational Research and Training, for the selected teachers. The Taluka-level and District-level teacher groups must conduct the prescribed training sessions.
- All concerned authorities, including the District Education Officer (Primary/Secondary), District Education Institution, and Taluka-level coordinators, must ensure that the above processes are strictly followed.
- Printing and distribution of material and answer sheets should follow the existing procedures.
- It is mandatory for schools to provide a list of all subject-wise, medium-wise, and grade-wise material selected at the state level to the concerned group and the designated district authorities for reference.
- Annually, on 1 May, parents should be called to the school in a proper schedule and presented with the answer sheets of the annual examination. Schools must resolve any queries, while also providing guidance for students’ academic progress.
- Guidance for half-yearly and component tests should also be provided to the parents. During this process, no teaching days should be used, ensuring maximum parental participation to improve students’ academic progress.
- This procedure should be implemented for four years after the introduction of the new CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation) system.
Conclusion
It is imperative that every school strictly follows the academic assessment practices. Adherence to these guidelines and assessment practices by each school ensures that the studies conducted for each class are properly internalised. This will ensure enhancement of students’ progress and their overall academic growth.
