Keeping track of CBSE school records just got an upgrade—say goodbye to old files and hello to the APAAR ID!
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released a public notice dated 24 January, 2025 that is important for students, parents, teachers, and school administrators. APAAR ID will now be implemented as the primary identifier for students of CBSE schools. This initiative is in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the ‘Digital India’ campaign.
To make things easier, the CBSE has provided steps for the implementation process. Let’s take a look at them.
Steps for APAAR ID Implementation
Step 1
Conduct Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs): Meetings should be conducted by schools to explain the importance of APAAR ID to students and parents.
Step 2
Consent form distribution and collection: Physical consent forms must be distributed to parents. They have to sign the forms to authorise the use of students’ Aadhaar Cards for the creation of APAAR ID.
Step 3
Verification of student data: Schools must verify student details such as name, date of birth, Aadhaar number, etc. on the UDISE+ portal.
Step 4
APAAR ID generation: After verifying the details on the UDISE+ portal, schools must generate the APAAR IDs. These IDs will get linked directly to the students’ DigiLocker accounts. Parents will receive the confirmation SMS.
Step 5
Distribution and integration: Schools will provide APAAR IDs to students and parents. The schools are to ensure that the APAAR ID is also included on school ID cards and integrated into the school’s IT systems.
Step 6
Addressing errors: In case of any discrepancies, schools should guide the parents to the Common Service Centres (CSCs) for corrections.
In addition to the steps, the CBSE has also given schools the following actionable points:
- Ensure APAAR ID creation for all students. Priority to be given to classes 9 to 12.
- Ensure accurate data entry in the UDISE+ portal.
- Maintain alignment of student details with Aadhaar records.
- Update school IT systems regularly for supporting APAAR ID integration.
- Collect testimonial and feedback from students, parents, and teachers on usage of APAAR ID.
- Conduct awareness programs during PTMs using the materials and videos available on the APAAR resource website.
APAAR ID Monitoring by CBSE
To monitor the process of APAAR ID creation, the CBSE has created an online system called the APAAR ID Monitoring system (AIM). Schools are advised to update information regularly on the AIM portal that is available on the CBSE website.
