Students and teachers in Government schools across Maharashtra can expect a total of 129 days off during the 2025–26 academic year. This information is according to the school holiday calendar released by the Zilla Parishad, Pune. The list includes weekends, public holidays, and seasonal vacations, offering a comprehensive view of the upcoming academic schedule.
Breakdown of Holidays in Maharashtra Government Schools for 2025–26
In the 2025–26 academic year, 236 days are designated for teaching, with the remaining days allocated to various holidays. The 129 days that are allotted as holidays are spread across various categories:
Sundays: 53 days
Public Holidays: 26 days
Diwali Break: 10 days
Summer Vacation: 37 days
Principal’s Discretion: 03 days
These holidays apply to all Government schools under the jurisdiction of Maharashtra, and the schedule follows standard guidelines issued by the Education Department.
The Maharashtra School holidays structure is designed to align with national and regional events, including major festivals and seasonal breaks. The calendar is intended to support both, the administrative and academic planning of schools throughout the year.
Maharashtra Board and CBSE Board Schedule Alignment
Earlier this year, there was speculation about changing the Maharashtra Board school academic calendar from the traditional June–April cycle to an April–March schedule in line with CBSE guidelines, as suggested in the State Curriculum Framework for School Education (SCF-SE). However, in February, Honourable Education Commissioner Shri. Sachindra Pratap Singh confirmed that the academic year for 2025–26 would continue to begin in June, ensuring continuity and minimising disruption.
