The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a major update for Class 10 Board Exam 2025. CBSE has provided guidance to students on how they must structure their answers for Science and Social Science subjects.
These new rules will apply to all students appearing for the upcoming CBSE Class 10 Board exams. Schools have been instructed to ensure that students practise this format during pre-boards so they don’t lose marks due to avoidable mistakes.
CBSE Class 10 Science Question Paper: Section-Wise Answering Guidelines
CBSE has divided the Science Class 10 Board Exam into three clear sections, and each answer must be written in its designated part of the answer book.

Section A: Biology
Section B: Chemistry
Section C: Physics

The Social Science Class 10 Board Exam has been divided into four sections based on subjects.

Section B: Geography
Section C: Political Science
Section D: Economics
Note: Just like Science, students must divide their answer book into these four parts before they begin writing answers.
Instructions for CBSE Class 10 Board Exams Section-Wise Answering Guidelines
The CBSE Board has shared strict instructions for updated answer writing format that all students need to follow during the exam:
1. Answers must be written only in the correct section
For example, a Physics answer written in the Chemistry section will not be evaluated.
2. No mixing of answers across sections
If answers are mixed, misplaced, or written outside the designated space, they will not be checked.
3. No corrections allowed later
CBSE has clearly stated that such mistakes will not be considered during:
- Verification
- Revaluation
- Result review
Such errors will permanently result in loss of marks.
Why CBSE Changed the Answering Format for Class 10 Exams?
The updated section structure in answers during the Class 10 Board exams aims to improve the quality and fairness of evaluation, reduce examiner confusion, ensure subject-wise clarity, and streamline checking for lakhs of answer sheets.
Did you know? CBSE sample papers with the new structure are already available on the CBSE Academic website, and students are strongly advised to go through them thoroughly.
What Schools Need to Do Now?
Schools have been instructed to train CBSE Class 10 students to divide answer sheets correctly, include the new rules in Pre-Board Exams 2024–25, offer practice sessions on section-wise answering, and ensure no student enters the exam unprepared for this change.
Proper practice is crucial because one sectioning mistake can cost marks, and CBSE will not entertain corrections after results.
Final Word: Students Must Practise the New Format Now
With CBSE introducing section-wise answering in Class 10 Board Exams 2025, it’s no longer enough to just study the content. Students now need to practise writing answers in the correct sections to avoid losing marks.
This makes using the right CBSE Class 10 preparation books a must. Students who practise early will avoid costly errors in the actual exam.
For Class 10 students appearing for the CBSE Board Exams 2025, understanding and following this updated answer format will play an important role in securing full marks.
