The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released an important circular that every student, teacher, and school administrator should be aware of. This update outlines how marks will be distributed for Practical Exams, Projects, and Internal Assessments (IA) for Classes 10 and 12 for the 2025–26 academic year.

Official CBSE Circular on Class 10 and 12 Practical Marks Distribution
CBSE Practical Exams Schedule for 2025–26
CBSE has officially announced the dates for Class 10 and 12 Practical Exams, Projects, and Internal Assessments, which are as follows:
01 January, 2026 to 14 February, 2026
Schools are strongly advised to complete all assessments within this window. Missing the timeline—or completing processes incorrectly—can lead to avoidable complications for students.
CBSE Class 10 and 12 Marks Distribution 2025–26 Explained
Along with the main circular, CBSE has attached a detailed annexure listing every subject for both classes, along with their complete marks breakup.
For each subject, the following information is clearly outlined:
- Class (10 or 12)
- Subject Code
- Subject Name
- Maximum Marks for Theory
- Maximum Marks for Practical
- Maximum Marks for Project
- Maximum Marks for Internal Assessment
- Whether an external examiner will be appointed
- Whether a Practical Answer-book will be provided by the Board
- Type of answer book used in theory exams
Each subject carries a total of 100 marks, distributed across these components based on the subject’s nature.
To make things easier for students and teachers, CBSE has also shared the complete subject-wise breakup. You can check the official marks distribution for both CBSE classes here:
CBSE Marks Distribution Upload: What Schools Must Keep in Mind
CBSE has observed that, in previous years, some schools unintentionally made errors while uploading Practical, Project, and Internal Assessment marks. The Board has emphasised the importance of following the instructions mentioned in the circular.
CBSE schools are encouraged to:
- Read the circular thoroughly
- Refer to the detailed marks-distribution annexure
- Double-check all entries before final submission
Since CBSE may not be able to consider correction requests after the deadline, careful and timely compliance will ensure a smooth and error-free examination process for everyone involved.
