The Madhya Pradesh High Court's Indore Bench has modified its earlier order that stayed the declaration of NEET (UG) 2025 results across the country. In a significant update, the court has now allowed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to release results for all exam centres—except those in Indore that were affected by technical disruptions during the May 4 examination.
NEET (UG) Hearing Revisited, Stay Order Amended
As reported by ETV Bharat, the revised order came after a special hearing held on May 16, a day after the original stay was issued. Justice Subodh Abhyankar, who presided over the case, heard fresh arguments from the Central Government represented by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Advocate Himanshu Joshi.
The Solicitor General argued that technical issues occurred only at a limited number of centres in Indore and it was unjustified to delay results for all students nationwide. He clarified that the exam was conducted smoothly elsewhere, and urged the court to amend its May 15 stay order.
Meanwhile, the petitioner's lawyer, Mridul Bhatnagar, opposed the request, pointing out that students at affected centres had been disadvantaged and could miss counselling opportunities if results were released prematurely.
After considering both sides, the court ruled that results can be declared for all centres except the disrupted ones in Indore. The NTA is expected to identify and list these centres within two days. The next hearing is scheduled for May 19.
Power Failure Disrupted Indore Exam Centres
The case was originally triggered by reports that a sudden weather change in Indore led to power outages at several NEET exam centres. According to ETV Bharat, some students were even forced to complete the exam in candlelight, prompting a student to file a petition via Advocate Mridul Bhatnagar. The initial order had called for a stay on the entire result declaration and had issued notices to the NTA, local electricity board, and examination centres.
As per Express, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that only about 11 centres in Indore were impacted. The court’s modified order brings relief to lakhs of students across India who can now expect their results on time, while students from the affected Indore centres will have to wait a little longer.
Similar Concerns in Chennai
While Madhya Pradesh’s case moves toward resolution, the Madras High Court has also stepped in regarding similar disruptions during NEET (UG) 2025. In a report by Express, Justice V Lakshminarayan of the Vacation Bench has temporarily restrained the NTA from declaring results for a Chennai-based centre following a petition by 13 students.
The plea claimed that power failure and heavy rains led to massive chaos at the PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya CRPF, Avadi. Students alleged that no backup power was available, water entered the hall, and no extra time was granted despite the turmoil. The court has asked the NTA to investigate the extent of disruption, identify affected students, and allow them to raise objections before the results are declared on June 14. The matter will be heard next on June 2.
In Conclusion
The High Court orders from both Indore and Chennai highlight growing concerns around fair exam conditions and equal opportunity for students. With lakhs of students awaiting the NEET (UG) 2025 results, these judicial interventions aim to strike a balance between timely result declaration and justice for genuinely affected candidates.
Stay tuned for updates on the next hearing dates—May 19 in Indore and June 2 in Chennai—as the courts continue to monitor the situation.
Even though factors like power outages and exam disruptions are sometimes beyond control, future aspirants should focus on what is within their control — thorough preparation. By using the right NEET (UG) study material, candidates can make sure they are ready for the exam no matter what comes their way.
