Every year, lakhs of students across India wait eagerly for the NEET (UG) results, which decide their medical college admissions. This year, however, the wait has become longer and more uncertain for many candidates due to unexpected events during the exam. According to the Times of India, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has temporarily stayed the announcement of the NEET (UG) 2025 results following a serious complaint about exam conditions in Indore.
Power Outage During Exam Affected Students
The NEET (UG) exam was conducted on May 4, with a scheduled exam time from 2 pm to 5 pm. However, at one of the centers, PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, a power outage occurred at around 3:30 pm. The petition filed before the court states that the center had no backup power system, forcing candidates to continue the test in very low light. Emergency lighting (such as candles), was arranged only around 4:30 pm, leaving students with just 30 minutes to complete their exam under these difficult conditions.
Court Halts Result Declaration
The Madhya Pradesh High Court’s Indore bench is hearing this petition, which demands a re-examination or other remedial measures to ensure fair assessment of the affected students. On May 16, Justice Subodh Abhyankar said that the authorities had failed to provide proper exam conditions. The court ordered that the NEET (UG) 2025 results must not be declared until further notice.
The court’s order said, "...Respondent(s) have failed to provide proper conditions to the petitioner, who was appearing in NEET-UG examination, which was held on 04.05.2025, and was prevented due to power failure in various parts of the city, it is directed that till the next date of hearing, the result shall not be declared by the respondents."
Also as per India Today, the court noted that officials from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and other authorities did not appear for the hearing as required. Notices have been sent to the NTA, the Central Government, and the MP West Zone Electricity Distribution Company to respond within four weeks. The next hearing is scheduled for June 30.
Impact on Students Across India
This court order affects more than 21 lakh students who appeared for the exam nationwide. The results were initially expected by June 14 but may now be delayed depending on further court decisions. Students and parents remain anxious to know if the stay will impact all candidates or only those from certain exam centers.
What Students Should Do Now
Students should keep checking official sources like the NTA website for updates. Staying in touch with exam centers and following trustworthy news outlets can help avoid misinformation. It is important to stay patient and be prepared for announcements after the court’s next hearing.
