In a recent report by Pune Pulse, the honourable Maharashtra Education Commissioner, Shri. Sachindra Pratap Singh confirmed that schools will continue to reopen in June as per the existing academic schedule for the 2025–26 session.
This much-needed clarity was provided following a statement made by honourable Minister of State for School Education, Shri. Pankaj Bhoyar on 23 February, 2025, wherein he had suggested that officials were working towards changing the school reopening date to 1 April, 2025. This was to align with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) calendar. This remark sparked widespread discussions among schools, parents, and educational institutions, leading to concerns over the limited implementation timeline.
However, the honourable Education Commissioner, Shri. Sachindra Pratap Singh has now put these speculations to rest. ‘There will be no change in the academic calendar for the upcoming year. Schools will commence in June as per the usual schedule. Any revision to the school reopening timeline would require extensive discussions and adequate preparation time. As of now, no changes are planned,’ he stated.
State Curriculum Framework Under NEP Implementation
While the school reopening timeline remains unchanged, Maharashtra is making significant changes to align its curriculum with the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.
New textbooks for State Board schools—based on CBSE models yet include Maharashtra-specific content—will be introduced for Class 1 from the upcoming academic year.
