In a continued effort to align the SCERT’s revised State Curriculum Framework for School Education (SCF-SE) with the National Education Policy (NEP), the Maharashtra State Board is planning to introduce key changes for the academic year 2025-26, reported TOI.
Let us take a look at what these changes are.
What are these Changes?
- Schools set to begin in April, bringing an early start to the new session from the academic year 2025-26.
- Textbooks for State Board schools will follow an NCERT based model while including state-specific content.
- Introduction of pre-primary registration and education policy from the next academic year.
- Plans to improve the existing five ‘Vidya Niketan’ schools and establishing three more named ‘Niwasi Gurukul’ in revenue divisions where they do not currently exist.
Why these Changes?
Honourable School Education Minister Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar explained the need for these reforms by stating, ‘There is a complete lack of regulation when it comes to kindergartens or pre-primary education. They just start anywhere. Even in row houses, you can see boards advertising kindergartens in Pune.’
Many such institutions start without any official permission and charge a large amount of fees for providing foundational education. Often, these institutions shut down abruptly after taking large donations. The parents who have already paid the fees then turn to the Government for help.
To tackle this issue, the Government is working on the system to regulate these schools and planning on actions against unregistered institutions.
