Whether you’re a student gearing up for Maharashtra FYJC or a parent navigating the admission maze, staying informed is key. The Maharashtra government has just rolled out several important updates to the FYJC 2025 admission process.
The registration deadline has been extended to 05 June, 2025 (up to 02:00 p.m.). This extension has been granted to give students and parents extra time to adjust their applications in light of the two major changes outlined below.
Here’s a quick summary of what’s changed:
1. Minority Colleges Can Surrender Vacant Minority Quota Seats Earlier
Until now, FYJC minority institutions had to wait until after the third round of admissions to transfer any unfilled minority quota seats to the general pool.
However, starting this year, they have the option to transfer these vacant FYJC minority seats right after Round 1—enabling more seats to open up earlier in the process.
Additionally, management is permitted to fill up to 50% of the minority quota seats based on merit until the completion of Round 1. If applications from minority students are received in Round 2, they will be given priority in admission.
Note: Transferring unfilled seats after Round 1 is entirely optional and at the discretion of the college management.
2. In-House Quota Update
Previously, the 10% in-house quota only applied to students from schools on the same premises as the junior college.
Now, students from schools operated by the same management and located within the same district are eligible for the in-house quota. Furthermore, Mumbai city, suburbs, and Thane will be treated as a single unit.
As the updated FYJC Admissions process for 2025 begins, staying prepared is crucial—not only with documents and deadlines but also by having the right FYJC notes to ensure a strong start to junior college.
Conclusion
These updates outline the recent changes to the FYJC admission process for 2025. You should carefully review the new guidelines, especially regarding minority quota seat transfers and the expanded in-house quota eligibility. Be sure to complete all required steps and submit your application before the extended deadline on 05 June, 2025.
