NEET is a national-level examination which is conducted for availing admission to students who aspire to join medical and dental courses across top colleges in India. As there is no state examination held for the course, the admissions are availed on the basis of NEET scores. However, the admissions of candidates take place through the All India Quota and State Quota. 15% of admission is done through AIQ seats by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and 85% is done through state quota seats by the respective authorities of the state. Candidates seeking admission in different states must apply through state quota seats by registering for counselling through the official site of NEET.
The Counseling process for filling State quota seats will begin from the fourth week of June 2019 in the state of Assam. While the AQI will be organized by the Medical Council of India, the filling of state quota will be carried out by the Government of Assam, Office of the Directorate of Medical Education, Assam.
The state authority of Assam would be publishing the merit list of the candidates who have cleared the NEET examination. All those who have qualified the exam can further proceed to filling the application for the counselling process. For this, aspirants must download the application form from the official website of NEET and submit it along with other documents to the examination authority. The counselling process will be carried out in the offline mode. All candidates who are notified by the authority must be present at the specified locations.
The number of counselling sessions will depend upon the availability of seats after each round. Usually, there are two counselling rounds and one mop-up round conducted.
A detailed counselling procedure is listed below for candidates applying for NEET 2019 counselling. These are as follows:
