The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially cancelled the NEET (UG) 2026 examination that was conducted on 3 May 2026.
According to the latest official press release, the decision has been taken after detailed examination of inputs received by the NTA in coordination with central agencies and findings shared by law enforcement authorities.
The Government of India has approved the cancellation and re-conduct of the NEET (UG) 2026 examination in the interest of maintaining transparency, fairness, and trust in the national examination system.
Why Was NEET (UG) 2026 Cancelled?
The NTA said that on 8 May 2026, it sent the matter to central agencies for investigation and verification. After reviewing further findings and reports from law enforcement agencies, the Agency decided that the current NEET UG 2026 exam process could not continue and therefore cancelled the exam.

- Alleged irregularities and ongoing Rajasthan SOG investigation for malpractices related to the NEET UG 2026 examination

NEET (UG) 2026 Re-Exam to Be Conducted: Details
NTA has confirmed that the NEET (UG) 2026 examination will now be re-conducted. However, the revised NEET (UG) 2026 exam dates have not yet been announced.

- New admit cards will be re-issued
- No fresh registration process will be conducted
- Already filled application forms will remain the same
- Assigned exam centres will be carried forward
- Previously paid fees will be refunded

The NTA also confirmed that fees already paid by by students for NEET (UG) exam 2026 will be refunded.
Moreover, the re-scheduled NEET (UG) 2026 examination will not require additional fees payment.

NTA Acknowledges Stress Faced by Students
In its statement, the NTA acknowledged that cancelling and re-conducting the examination would cause ‘real and significant inconvenience’ to students and families.
