All CET exams taken for admissions to professional and technical courses under the Department of Higher and Technical Education will be taken twice a year from the next academic year 2028-2029.
The announcement was made by higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil while addressing an event on quantum computing at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University (BATU) in Lonere.

Courses Covered Under the New CET Policy
The MHT-CET exams for engineering, pharmacy and agriculture courses and CET exams for MBA courses were taken twice last year by the State Common Entrance Test Cell (CET Cell) as a second chance for the students.
The CET Cell is also considering revising the eligibility criteria for engineering admission by increasing the minimum aggregate marks required in the Class 12 board exams, instead of giving weightage to board exam scores said the minister Chandrakant Patil.
Proposed Changes to Engineering Admission Eligibility
The CET Cell is also working on an exam manual. The minimum eligibility is 45% aggregate for general category. However, a committee has been constituted to look into the possibility of providing weightage for 12th marks and is yet to submit its report. “We intend to increase the benchmark, but no decision has been taken yet,” he said.
The amended policy will be implemented if it is approved, from 2028-29, giving students ample time to prepare for their board exams and know the revised admission criteria. A decision will likely be announced by Jan, 2027 said an official.
