The Maharashtra Government has introduced a common Progressive Assessment Tests (PAT) timetable for Classes 1 to 9 for the academic year 2024–25. The decision to implement the common timetable aims at achieving uniformity and utilising the study time of students effectively across the State.
Previously, schools prepared their own exam timetables. These timetables usually concluded final exams by 15 April. Now, as per the directive, all schools affiliated with the State Board must conduct their annual exams simultaneously from 08 April to 25 April, 2025. The results for these exams are expected to be announced by 01 May, 2025.
Teachers’ and Parents’ Reactions
While this decision is expected to enhance the efficiency of exams, it has also sparked discussions among educators regarding the practicality of the timeline, particularly in terms of evaluation.
Due to the deadline of announcing results by 01 May, 2025, the pressure of compiling results and preparing report cards within just five days falls on the teachers.
Moreover, many parents had already planned their summer vacations or class enrollments based on the usual timetable. Naturally, there is a frustration among parents over the sudden change in the schedule.
Honourable Shri. Sachindra Pratap Singh, Commissioner of School Education, stated ‘This decision ensures that the entire academic year is utilised effectively. Reports from education assessment organisations like ASER indicate that learning outcomes need improvement. Considering this, we need to modify certain systems, and this is one of the steps we are taking.’
