The Maharashtra School Education and Sports Department has issued a major circular making 50 clock hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training mandatory every year for teachers, headmasters, supervisors, and vice-headmasters across all mediums in the state.
What is CPD Training 2026 for Maharashtra Teachers?
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) refers to structured training programmes designed to continuously upgrade teachers’ professional knowledge, teaching methods, digital skills, and classroom practices.
Why is 50 Hours CPD Training for Maharashtra Teachers Mandatory?
Every teacher and school authority from Std. 1 to 12 in all government and private aided schools must complete a minimum of 50 clock hours of CPD training annually. What does it aim to achieve?
The initiative is to ensure the following points:
- Improvement in teaching quality and classroom effectiveness
- Equipping teachers with 21st-century skills
- Promoting lifelong learning among educators
- Strengthening competency-based and student-centred teaching
- Increasing student learning outcomes as envisioned under NEP 2020
Structure of the Maharashtra 50-Hour CPD Training Programme 2026
The annual CPD training has been divided into two major components:

Offline CPD 2026 Training in Maharashtra Schools
The offline training for CPD 2026 will include 30 hours of face-to-face training.
This would include components as follows:

Key Highlights of Offline Training
- Training batches will include approximately 40–50 teachers.
- Training will follow a cascade model from state to cluster level.
- Attendance and evaluation records will be maintained through the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) portal as per the last year.
- SCERT Maharashtra will prepare modules, training materials, schedules, and evaluation systems.
Maharashtra Online Teacher Training: 20 Hours
Teachers must complete 20 hours of online training annually through approved platforms such as:
- DIKSHA
- SWAYAM
- NISHTHA
- NCERT programmes
- CIET courses
- iGOT platform
- SCERT-developed online courses
Teachers will need to obtain digital certificates after completing these courses. Approximately 2 hours of online training per month must be completed by each trainee. Every year in the month of April, the complete year-long schedule (Annual Training Action Plan) should be published by SCERT. This will allow teachers to plan their leaves or school teaching.
Key Training Areas Under Maharashtra CPD Policy for Teachers 2026
1. National Education Policy (NEP) 2020
Teachers will receive training on the major provisions of NEP 2020, including the new 5+3+3+4 academic structure, revised curriculum and syllabus framework, multilingual education, vocational learning, pedagogy, action research, professional ethics, and constitutional core values.
2. Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN)
Special emphasis will be placed on strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy skills through language development, mathematical learning, joyful learning techniques, and play-based teaching methods such as Jadui Pitara.
3. Environment and Value Education
The training will also focus on environmental awareness and value education, including climate change, pollution control, conservation of natural resources, and encouraging active participation in environmental protection initiatives.
4. Advanced Pedagogy and Innovative Teaching
Teachers will be trained in modern and innovative teaching approaches such as activity-based learning, experiential learning, and need-based teaching practices designed around student learning outcomes and classroom requirements.
5. Competency-Based Education
The CPD programme will promote competency-based teaching methods that focus on students’ proficiency, skill development, conceptual understanding, and learning at an individual pace.
6. Digital Literacy, ICT and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The Government has included extensive digital training areas such as ICT integration, Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, e-content creation, cyber security, digital and financial literacy, safe internet practices, Tinkering Labs, Science Labs, and C-DAC online laboratories (OLABS).
7. Inclusive Education and Student Counselling
Training will also cover inclusive education practices for Divyang students, gender sensitivity, mental health awareness, POCSO Act guidelines, disaster management, career guidance and counselling, along with health, hygiene, and sanitation awareness.
8. Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation
Teachers will be trained on modern evaluation systems including the Holistic Progress Card (HPC), question bank development, PAT exams and analysis, SQAAF implementation, and data-based student assessment methods.
9. Evaluation of Learning Outcomes
The programme will focus on evaluating improvements in students’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, behaviour, and overall learning outcomes through effective assessment methods.
10. Leadership and Professional Ethics
School leadership and management training will include leadership qualities, empowerment of School Management Committees (SMCs), professional ethics, and the code of conduct for teachers and school authorities.
Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) to Monitor Teacher Training
The entire CPD process will be digitally monitored through the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) which will include the following activities:
- Record training attendance
- Track completed and pending training hours
- Upload online certificates
- Maintain pre-test and post-test records
- Generate completion certificates after 50 hours
The final Maharashtra 2026 CPD completion certificate will also be recorded in the teacher’s Service Book.
Computer Centres to Support Online Teacher Training
Under the STARS Project, Maharashtra has established multipurpose computer centres in DIETs and selected schools.
These centres include:
- 50–150 computers
- High-speed internet
- Updated software systems
The Government has instructed that these centres should become ‘Centres of Excellence’ for:
- Online teacher training
- Digital literacy
- E-content creation
- Educational innovation
Important Rules Mentioned in the Maharashtra CPD 2026 Training Policy

| Separate Training for Senior and Selection Grades | The Government has clarified that CPD training will not be considered valid for Senior Grade or Selection Grade benefits. |

- The Government has also instructed authorities not to repeatedly appoint the same teachers as trainers for every subject.
- No NGO, CSR organisation, or external institution will be allowed to conduct parallel teacher training independently without technical verification and approval from SCERT.
